Some good and some bad about this production. On the negative side, the production value does not seem to be as good as the first in this series. It's still up there in terms of being an old time radio drama, rather than just an audiobook but I felt there was a lack of background music and sounds. On the plus side, it was one long story, as opposed to two separate episodes. Velda plays more of an active role and is no longer sitting in the background as just Mike Hammer's secretary.Overall, worth listening to. It's short and enjoyable even if you are not a Spillane fan.

This revised series of audio stories are Mike Hammer at his best. They have updated Hammer for the 21st century, he now uses cell phones and is a veteran of Viet-nam instead of the Korean War. The sex and violence can be graphic (uncensored) and it is in keeping with the original Mike Hammer tone. I love these new Mike hammer Vols 1-3 and highly recommend them to all Mike Hammer fans.
All three volumes of this series are fantastic, but volume 3 is the best if you ask me. Stacy Keach provides not only the narration, but the music as well. He does a masterful job on both. Max Allan Collins's writing is brilliant, as always is the case with him. It's great to hear Mike Hammer stories in this format. Fans of the Mike Hammer television series and t.v. movies will love these audio adventures. Listen closely for the subtle nods to Hammer's book and t.v. past.
product is fine- story is poorly written and offensive. If this was written in the 40's it would be understandable, since this is a modern authored script much of the material is inappropriate and disrespectful to women.

I'll admit I bought this because I'm a huge Max Allan Collins fan more than a Mickey Spillane one. I was pleasantly surprised by how much I like this one. A good story, and the presentation, with a full audio cast, is so much more than just an audio book.
Highly recommended to any fan of Spillane or Collins.
